Our “Scenic Garden Route” tour commences in Cape
Town, we travel the N2 over majestic mountain passes and on through interesting
farmland, taking in several historical towns on our journey of some four hundred
kilometers to Mossel Bay in the Southern Cape and the “official start”
of the Garden Route.
We leave Mossel Bay and travel inland to George the capital
town of the Southern Cape. We then head back to the coast traveling through
some truly spectacular scenery taking in the coastal village of Wilderness,
and on through the Lake district to the tranquil town of Knysna, where we overnight
and spend a couple of days exploring this picturesque area.
Knysna and surrounds offers the visitor a kaleidoscope of
activities. We tour this quaint and historic town, take a forest drive to view
the “big” tree, enjoy spectacular ocean views, visit Knysna’s
ever popular waterfront, dine on a paddle steamer while cruising the lagoon,
drive the eastern headland where the lagoon opens out to the sea, take in the
spectacular views of the Heads and surrounds.
During our visit to this beautiful part of South Africa we travel to the very
popular holiday town of Plettenberg Bay. We visit the rugged
and beautiful Storms River Nature reserve, visit in the spectacular Van Stadens
river bridge / gorge, watch the brave enjoy the worlds highest “ bungee
jump ” and take a scenic drive through Natures Valley.
Our homeward journey takes us through the Wilderness and George,
we travel over the mighty Outeniqua Mountain pass to Oudtshoorn, the Ostrich
capital of South Africa where we will visit an Ostrich farm, a Crocodile / Cheetah
ranch, and the spectacular world renowned Cango Caves. We overnight in the small
town of Calitzdorp the Fortified Wine capital of South Africa, where we dine
out and enjoy traditional country fare.
The final leg of our homeward journey takes in some spectacular scenery including
Seven Weeks Canyon, the country towns of Ladismith, Barrydale,
the picturesque and hot spring town of Montague and on through the Wine-land
towns of Robertson, Worcester, Paarl and back to the Mother City.
At the end of this tour there is no doubt that you will record in
your diary :
