FULL DAY TOUR
DEPART AT 08h30
RETURN APPROX. 17H00
We travel out of Cape Town along the N2 highway over the majestic
Sir Lowry’s Pass and the Hottentots Holland mountain range, taking in
the Apple and Pear growing areas of Grabouw and Elgin, over the Houhoek mountain
pass and on to the coastal town of Hermanus ---- the Whale capital of South
Africa.
Hermanus is a popular holiday town situated in Walker Bay
on the East Coast, some one hundred and twenty kilometers from the City. We
spend the day taking in some magnificent scenery, visiting a local Brewery in
Stanford, tasting some excellent wines produced in the area, and watching the
antics of those enormous yet playful Southern Right Whales.
The whale watching is done from a number of excellent vantage points situated
along a twelve kilometer stretch of rugged coastline that runs along the cliffs
overlooking Walker Bay. The Whales frequent the coast to calve and mate during
the period from July to November to calve and mate.
All too soon we say farewell to Hermanus and commence our homeward journey,
taking a very scenic coastal drive through Kleinmond, Betty’s Bay, Rooi
Els, Gordons Bay, the Strand and on to the city.
Hermanus is worth visiting even out of Whale season for the scenery we pass
through is quite magnificent.
At the end of the day you will no doubt record in your journal :
" Today, I had a “Whale of a time” - I visited Hermanus and
enjoyed some quite magnificent scenery. "
