Overview

A magnificent scenic tour awaits you as you travel from Cape Town through the beautiful farmland and mountain scenery of the southern Cape, taking in the small towns of Somerset West, Grabouw, Caledon, Riviersonderend, Swellendam Heidelberg, Riversdale, Albertinia en route to Mossel Bay and the official start of the Garden Route. ---- George ( a small City) is the principal town of the Southern Cape area, is out next stop, then on to the spectacular scenery of Wilderness, passing a series of scenic freshwater lakes and on passed the small holiday / retirement town of Sedgefield --- we travel on to Knysna where we overnight for the next three nights.

The next two days are spent exploring the magnificent scenery around Knysna. -- We travel to Plettenberg Bay, Natures Valley and up the coast as far as Storms River Mouth. -- The scenery of this region is truly magnificent.

We have to say farewell to Knysna and continue our tour taking in Sedgefield, Wilderness, George, en route to Oudtshoorn, and eventually on to Calitzdorp where we overnight.
The homeward leg of the tour takes in the magnificent scenery along Route 62 which takes in Ladismith, Barrydale, Montague, Ashton, Robertson, Worcester and then to the N1, through the Huguenot tunnel to Paarl and back to Cape Town -- in all you will have covered nearly 1500 kilometres.
  

Itinerary :

 
Day 1 :
  • We depart Cape Town, at 07h00, travel along the N2, past Somerset West and through the mighty Hottentot Holland Mountains via Sir Lowry’s Pass, taking in the apple orchards of Grabouw and Elgin, onward through Botriver and the wheat lands of Caledon, and Riviersonderend then to Swellendam where we stop for a wholesome breakfast.
  • After an enjoyable breakfast we continue our journey, taking in the small agricultural towns of Heidelberg, Riversdale, Albertinia and on to Mossel Bay, the sixth largest harbour in South Africa. -- Mossel Bay is the official start of the Garden Route.
  • We then head once again for the coast and take in the very scenic village of Wilderness and on through Sedgefield to Knysna where we will be staying for two nights at a modern and very comfortable B&B, overlooking Knysna Lagoon with Knysna Heads in the distant background. ---   After freshening up we visit Knysna Town and go walkabout in Knysna’s mini Waterfront.
  • In the evening you will be dineon your own at a restaurant of your choosing in Knysna’s Waterfront.  
 
Day 2 :
  • After an excellent early breakfast at our Bed and Breakfast, we set off on a days exploration of Knysna and surrounds, taking in Belvedere, Brenton on Sea, Leisure Isle, The Heads, Coney Glen, and a drive into the Forest to view the big tree, eventually making our way to Knysna Waterfront.
  • An optional activity is to end a wonderful day’s outing with a sunset cruise aboard the “John Benn Paddle Steamer” on Knysna lagoon.
  • Dinner will be at one of the many excellent restaurants in Knysna.
 
Day 3 :
  • After a substantial breakfast we say a fond farewell to Knysna, head back through scenic Wilderness to George where we visit an excellent “ Historic Railways Museum “ and the Town.
  • Then on and through the mighty Outeniqua mountain pass to Oudtshoorn.
  • We visit an Ostrich farm, tour the world renowned Cango Caves, we also take in a Crocodile and Cheetah ranch.
  • We travel on to Calitzdorp ( the port/ fortified wine capital of South Africa) where we overnight.
  • Dinner is at a super little restaurant called “ The Rose of the Karoo”
 
Day 4
  • After an excellent breakfast we travel the R62 and take in the magnificent Seven Weeks Canyon --   SA’s Grand Canyon
  • Then on via Ladismith to Barrydale where we will have lunch at the “Country Pumpkin” restaurant.
  • After an enjoyable lunch we make our way to Montague, then on through the Cape Winelands of Robertson, Worcester, Paarl and finally back beautiful Cape Town arriving at around 17h30.

  • The cost of the abovementioned fourday, threenight Garden Router Tour is R6000 per person sharing  ---   a single supplement of R650  per room per night applies.

You may Extend the tour along the Garden route by an extra night and day. to a  five day four night Tour  

 
This Garden Route Tour may be extended to a fiveday, fournight tour, with an increase in cost of R850 per person to R7850-- single supplement of R650 per room per night applies.
 
Day 5 :
 
The additional day and night will enable you to visit Plettenburg Bay, Tsitzikama National Park where you will have lunch at Storms River Mouth and take in the spectacular Van Stadens River Bridge -- said to be the worlds highest “Bungee” jump site – You will also visit Natures Valley en route back to Knysna where you will spend an extra night.
