Overview
Itinerary :
- The tour commences with a drive through District six, historically from the Apartheid era.
- It takes in Groot Schuur hospital -- the hospital where the worlds first human heart transplant was performed by Dr, Chris Barnard and his team on 3rd December 1967
- Our tour continues past a historic flour windmill “ Mosterts Mill “ dating back to 1796.
- We make our way through the Campus of the University of Cape Town and marvel at its magnificent setting, on the side of the mountain below Devils Peak.
- Rhodes Memorial, a memorial to Cecil John Rhodes a former Governor of the Cape and founder of De Beers Diamonds the worlds largest diamond conglomerate is our next stop -- we go walk about and enjoy a photo opportunity of the memorial and spectacular views.
- We travel the world renowned botanical gardens of Kirstenbosch, where we have tea before going walk about in this awesome botanical wonderland situated on the slopes of Table Mountain.
- Groot Constantia, the oldest wine estate in South Africa, is our next port of call we go walk about this very scenic estate with excellent examples of historic Cape Dutch Architecture.
- There will be an opportunity to taste award winning wines produced on this 300 year old Wine Estate.
- All too soon it is time to commence our journey back to the City.
- Then travel on through Constantia and Tokai, past Pollsmoor Prison where Nelson Mandela once spent three years.
- Travel over Ou Kaapse Weg ( old Cape road ) soaking in the panoramic views.
- We drive on through Noordhoek and on to Chapmans Peak Drive with its wonderful views of the ocean and mountains.
- Chapmans Peak Drive is one of the South Africas most spectacular drives -- we stop a couple times along this awesome drive for photo opportunities..
- Lunch will be at an extremely good restaurant located in the picturesque fishing harbour of Hout Bay,
- After a leisurely lunch we wend our way back to base along the scenic coastal drive taking in beautiful views of Llundudno, Camps Bay, Clifton and Sea Point.
- We return to base at around 14h30
